I use a regular YoYo. Really cheap. If you want to do fancy stuff, you can drill your own holes just like some Brits do(for the lanyards some of them like to use to prevent losing it).
1.10 so true…
I just use a Gatorade bottle.
Great concept, but you can make a LOT of these out of a 2x4x8 for less than $30-$45 and a bit of patience (though the cast-and-forget holes might not be as strong)
Super easy to make. Drill your own holes
You guys should check out the cabuya headline for 20$, it's a really good hand fishing device just like this.
umm too high price for this, I can buy something like this for 1.50€.
Im gonna DIY this out of a small belt pulley i have laying around and just drill some holes in center…..FREE!!!
I thought they were a good product in every way except for the price we better than the cheap Chinese yo-yo reels that you can buy if they weren't as expensive I would buy three or four to put in my kit that I keep in my truck and at home wasn't saying that I thought they were junk or wouldn't work I think they would definitely work just do not like the price and I know you get what you pay for but I cannot justify that price
does it float?
Just tie the string to the branch why do you need the yo yo.
but how do you reel it in after youve basily tied it to a tree because it would be hard to untangle if theres a fish on it and if its a bigger fish just pulling the line in could cut into your hands and it also makes your argument about the holes makeing it easier to reel in big fish redundant.
One negative for the Yoyito Hand Reel and Bag is the fishing hook storage is a tiny nylon stuff sack that can be pierced by the hooks. An Altoids Smalls tin ($1) will hold the hooks and weights that come with it. I just wish the Yoyito Hand Reel came with something like it.
The Yoyito Fishing Kit on their site comes with 1 Yoyito Hand Reel and Bag ($30) and 4 Yoyo FishTrap ($3.95 a piece) which comes to $46.
use a can it works better tha. the pruduct plus its only 10$ fpr the line n you recycle the can over n over(mexican style)
At $45 apiece I could have quite a few cheap reels without the polls and only take up a little more space and I can make a pole and fish that way I have done it quite a few times
or you can just keep your line in the reel it came… I grew up south America where everyone hand fish out there… fishing poles very rare and just for "the rich" people who could afford … many line "reels" where just made of a small slab of wood 4" x8" x 1" ( or smaller or bigger) and you can keep your hooks hooked to the board to store and can make a handle on one side if you care (like some people wrap their line to a water bottle to reel and cast but instead a rectangle piece of flat wood, you can wrap vertically or horizontally )…watch fishing videos anywhere in south america… I used to have a leather sleeve for my index finger because the line will cut skin when hand fishing ,specially that your hands will get a bit wet and skin gets softer! Leather finger sleeve will save you pain!….and best thing of all , it is almost all free! I carry a set in my bug out gear.
great vid, Joel. very nice catfish!
Wouldn't it be better if you just used a rock as a counter weight Spring Snare Trap for fishing?

very cool. only $30 on amazon though, as opposed to the $45 you advertise. I have a few DIY ideas for this.

Neat idea. but with a large catfish, or big fast fish (salmon) etc … growing up as a sports commercial fisherman, … and line screaming off the reel, .. you are going to get the reel yanked out of your hand, knuckle busted losing the reel, and one hell of a reel "ring" burn around whatever finger you decide to "free spool" your fish on. Other than that, good idea, … but I would still go with flat fly fishing reel or a yo-yo reel. Definitely for lazy fish, or smaller fish catching.
very cool, thanx
where can I buy one?
by the way brilliant video
